alive and kickin

Just when you thought I was dead, I post again! Wow, it has been forever, has it really been a whole year since I posted last. I am really lazy, wedding planning can be partially blamed I guess. For those of you that keep checking this site for updates, I feel sorry for you because my blog was never even mediocre. I do appreciate the one person that always asks for updates, it almost makes me feel important.

So, the wedding day is almost here and I still have a crap-load of stuff to take care of, no surprise there. I am the biggest procrastinator I know, I’m not bragging about that either it’s the sad truth. I haven’t even gotten my tux measurement yet because my wedding party is so difficult to round up for a fitting. Ok, enough about the wedding talk, my heart just started racing thinking of all the stuff I still need to get done before I see my lovely bride walk down the isle.

Comics, you knew I would get to them didn’t you? Instead of planning a wedding I have been reading tons of trade paperbacks. I don’t have time to give full reviews on any of them, but I will tell you what you have to read. That’s right if you read comics at all these are ones that should not be missed, PICK THEM UP!

OMG! I'M ENGAGED

The title pretty much says it all as of October 27 I am engaged! Amanda and I went to Florida and it rained almost the whole time, but there was an opening that led to a walk on the beach followed by a proposal. Thats the story, she would probably tell it much more romanticly than I, but i have to keep up my tuff-guy image. The wedding is going to be March 7 2009, so who knows how much time I will have to update this blog. I have to remodel the house and plan a wedding. The wedding is going to be cool we are going to make sure that it has our style in it, so i get to wear neon green chuck taylors with my tux!

What Happens In Vegas, I Tell Everyone!

This post will be short and sweet or something like that. Anyway life is good I wish there was more time in a day to get some of the million things I have to do done, but other than that things seem to be going great. I was in Las Vegas a few weeks ago with Amanda, NO WE DID NOT GET MARRIED BY ELVIS! The trip was awesome; I wish it would have been longer. The best thing was going to the COKE store there and trying the flavors from around the world. There were 16 different flavors and for 7 bucks you could try them all. Most were good but a few were just plain nasty. One of them was like spraying perfume in your mouth, that’s the reaction you got from drinking it. Being on the plane gave me an opportunity to read some comics, which I will gladly review for you now.

Invincible: The Ultimate Collection Vol.3 is probably one of the best books I have ever read; the whole series is just something you have to check out. Think about Superman having a teenage son, not the crappy son he has in that new Stupidman film that came out a year or so ago. Anyway the son, Invincible finds out his father is on Earth to conquer it, so a battle breaks out and the father leaves the planet. In this volume Invincible finds his father on another planet and learns his father has taken a new bride and he has a brother. So he is a little upset, can you blame him, his dad Omni-man left him and his mother and then up and started a new family on some other planet, oh and did I mention it was with some blue praying mantis looking chick. I can’t say anymore without giving it all away, so do yourself a favor and pick up the series.

Who Watches The Watchmen?

It has been a very long time, has it not, anyway lets get to the new post topic shall we. My relationship is going great, defiantly the best one I have ever been in, love is indeed in the air. Amanda and I just got back from a trip to Chicago to see a C.S.I. function at the museum there, the trip itself was problematic, but the company was great. No matter what we did the odds seemed to be against us, the hotel we stayed at charged me one hundred bucks to park there for the three days we stayed. It used to be if you stayed at a hotel parking was included, but that was not the case in Chicago. We were late to the C.S.I. show because we couldn’t walk there like to hotel website said, so we had to catch a bus. I called the museum to make sure we could use our late tickets and was told it wouldn’t be an issue. When we made it to the museum we were told late tickets were not acceptable, I thought I was going to have to choke the ticket taker, then he said he was joking and told us to get in line, his life was spared. As nice as it was to get away from work for a few days, I was very happy when I saw the welcome to Ohio sign on our way home.

I have been reading a lot lately, well comics anyway, not picture less books, that would be too difficult to finish. I have read two books that have impressed me in the last few weeks, the first is Mouse Guard: Fall 1152. The book is about mice that live in medieval time if you enjoy movies about knights you will probably enjoy this book, heck I don’t care for knights and I thought it was great.

The second book is slated to be a movie in a year or so, its title is The Watchmen. I have owned the issues for ten plus years, but never read them, I checked out the trade from the library and finished it in a few days it was a great read. Think of what would happen if being a superhero was illegal, what if Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman and etc. had to stop fighting crime and get normal jobs. Then all of the sudden Batman’s alter ego Bruce Wayne is murdered, and the superheroes must reunite underground to find the killer, that just might happen to be closer to them than they think. If you haven’t read it, pick up the trade, heck it’s free from the library and if they don’t have it at your local one, they can order it from another Ohio library. They film comes out 3/6/2009 so you have plenty of time to get up to speed before it hits theaters.

Well that’s it for now, and as always please support indy comic publishers. There is a new one out Teshkeel publishing and it is giving away free copies of its premier title The 99, so grab one at your local comic shop.

Oh Yea, Snap Into A Slim Jim!

I'm tired, so that means this post will be most unreadable do to the lack of brain power I am running on. I would just go to sleep, but i have to stay up to put clothes in the dryer, aahhh, when the heck are we going to get clothes like that coat that dried itself in Back To The Future III? My one reader maybe wondering what the heck is up with the title to this post, well i am glad you asked, what you didn't ask? well ask already so I can continue with this post, thank you. I have been reading Savage Dragon all week and for some dumb reason I keep thinking of Macho Man Randy Savage every time I see savage on the cover of the trade paper back. Any way moving on Savage Dragon is now being reprinted in very affordable archive versions the bad news is they are in black and white. I hate black and white, but i really want to catch up on my Savage Dragon so i will have to deal. I just finished volume one of the archive series and I can't wait for amazon.com to send the second volume, but not enough to skip out on the free shipping that takes forever and a day, sorry Dragon I am really cheap. If you like butt kicking in your comics as much as I do then pick this up. There are all kinds of cool adversaries like big spiders and guys made out of leaches. For those new to Savage Dragon, he is a cop, well a super cop think Superman with a badge and a dragon fin, oh and green skin. He is the only cop with super human abilities fighting against a city over run with super powered freaks, needless to say he is a little out numbered, but a merry band of misfit vigilantes lend him a hand in cleaning up the streets. The washer stopped, time to toss the clothes in the dryer and hit the sheets, until next time and remember to support indy comics!

For The One Person That Reads This Crap, This Is For You

I am not dead, for the record I have been crazy busy, I am seeing someone, her names Amanda, and trying to finish fixing up a house. Lets start with the good stuff first, my relationship is going great, which means the house project is not going so well. I am really starting to like this girl and that scares me a little, because it makes me vulnerable. I hate to admit that I have a heart, because that means it can be broken. Not that I see it being broken in my near future, but if I have learned one thing in life, it’s that no matter how great a relationship seems to be going, you never know what the girl is really thinking. It’s not that guys don’t do the same, we try and act like we don’t care as much as we do, but lets face the facts guys, we suck at faking. Girls on the other hand can tell you they love you, then when you leave they call up their ex-boyfriend in Tulsa and talk about getting married. Samuel Butler (no relation) said, “It is better to have loved and lost than never to have lost at all” apparently he enjoyed visiting the emerald city, 420 holla, because only a tool would want to have his heart ripped out, stepped on, run over, stuck in a blender, then stitched up and put back in his chest by some guy in an alley claming to be a Dr. Don’t take this post the wrong way I want the happy ending, not that happy ending, get your mind out of the gutter. Seriously I want the happily ever after ending that those sappy chick flicks all have, I just don’t want to have to sit through fifty nightmare on elm street endings to get there.

Tonight she met the parents, well my dad, she met my mom a while back. That is always one of those steps in the relationship that scares me the most, because what it they don’t like each other? Luckily that was not the case, but what do you do if it is? Do you listen to you parents or do you follow your heart?, that’s right I said heart not some other five letter word. Thank God that’s not the case because that reassures me that I probably made a good choice, which doesn’t happen often in my dating experiences, ok never since I have yet to say the words I do.

Currently Reading

I am currently reading The Goon, created by Eric Powell and published by Dark Horse Comics. This has to be the best thing I have read all year, maybe ever, It is funny and action packed. I have yet to finish an issue that I didn’t like. I picked it up because I got a good deal on the trade paperbacks, and I am so glad that I did. I really don’t know how to describe it, it has zombies and it seems to take place in the mid nineteen hundreds. I guess I would say it’s like the Godfather meets Dawn of The Dead meets UHF, that’s the best I can do as far as a description goes. If you are sick of the stereotypical comic book, please pick this up, and remember to support Indy comics.

Yar, These Ninja Stars Hurt

I have been sick for about a week now, but I’m not complaining. I read a crap-load of stuff and watched a ton of movies, which leads me to the topic of this post. Pirates VS Ninjas the comic by Antarctic Press is a must read for any pirate or ninja fan. The comic is hilarious and action packed! It’s as if some lab technician spliced Pirates of The Caribbean DNA with Beverly Hills Ninja DNA producing the crazy spawn that is Pirates VS Ninjas. This book has something for everyone; I’m not a big manga fan but if you are this book most defiantly will appeal to you. The only down fall is that the comic is in black and white, if it were printed in color I would probably have needed a change of underwear after reading the first two issues. Issue three is coming out in a very short time so go track down issues one and two both are still available through www.silverbulletcomics.com , whose side are you on?
